POSTDOCTORAL RESEACHER/ Physicist; Synchrotron X-ray Researcher
Louisiana Tech University, Physics Program and Institute for Micromanufacturing

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, or closely related field; a high degree of familiarity in X-ray absorption spectroscopy and spectro-microscopy; some amount of beamline maintenance experience with a Kirkpatrick-Baez mirror system; rudimentary knowledge of beamline electronics.

Additional Qualifications Desired: Publications showing the use of X-ray spectroscopy will be very helpful in assessment of application. The applicant will be stationed at the Louisiana State University’s Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices (CAMD). In addition to participation in sponsored projects, the applicant is also expected to help other novice users of the X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS) beamline and should be proficient in XAS data analysis that includes XANES and EXAFS. In addition, expertise in carrying out real-space Full Multiple Scattering (FMS) calculations using FEFF8 code (or equivalent modeling technique) is required.

Responsibilities: Will participate in research involving application of X-ray absorption spectro-microscopy, XAS (EXAFS and XANES) to nanomaterials. The researcher is expected to participate as a collaborator in the Louisiana State University Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC) on Nanocatalyst Design for Energy Conversion. Some amount of time will be available for the researcher to conduct his or her own research and to write proposals to external agencies.

Salary: Will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. See our website www.latech.edu for further details about Louisiana Tech University. For details about CAMD, visit www.camd.lsu.edu. An offer of employment is contingent on a satisfactory pre-employment background check.
